allen ginsberg on rap
recently i've fallen in love with rap music. i grew up listening to punk and only punk for years, then i expanded my horizons to include other types of rock, even folk and country, but it was always guitar based music. within the past few years i've started to listen to everything i used to hate, electronic and rap music. i used to always say shit like, "that's not music." i've definitely changed my mind since then. it's music if it's sounds good. whatever. anyway, allen ginsberg, surprisingly, creates one of the best defenses of rap music in this interview conducted in 1994. LINK TO INTERVIEW. please have a listen!

fox tail
so i bought a fox tail on ebay, the first photo is what it looked like when i ordered it. i forget to have them send the package to my apartment & instead it went to my mom's house. my mom put it high up on a counter to save for the next time she saw me. well mikey, my dog, had other plans for my fox tail. i guess he could smell it or something but he killed it. totally obliterated it. fucking beast dog. he didn't even try to hide the fact that he did it. he just said in his doggie bed & does what mikey does best - DESTROY.

curious
1. Would you ever get cosmetic surgery? If not, why not? If yes, what would you want done?
maybe if i was super old & wrinkly
2. What is “your drink”?
jagermeister straight from the bottle
3. What are your five fashion essentials?
black shirt, black pants, black shoes, black sunglasses, black purse
4. Do you have any tattoos? What are they? If not, do you want some? What would you like to get?
none yet. i've got ideas. my mom has a book about emergency medical procedures & it has a picture of a heart massage (two hands holding an anatomically correct heart). i want to get that tattooed on my left side. it's kind of a "i <3 mom" tattoo without the lameness.
5. What is something most people don’t know about you?
tons. i took baton classes when i was young.
(curious tuesdays)

yeah, i got those obey rings that i was eyeing. the silver bracelet that i'm wearing in the first picture says "ancora imparo" which means i am still learning, a phrase attributed to michelangelo. my momma got it for me, it means a lot to me & sums up one of my many life philosophies.

simple teetoe
i kind of really need new sandals. my favorite sandals are starting to die. i originally purchased them for a few bucks at tj maxx because they were one of the few non-leather sandals they had & until last summer i didn't really own sandals. (unless you count the pair of flip-flops that i used to wear every day, every time i showered because i used to live in a dorm & had to share the showers with way too many girls & i did not want to get their feet fungi...sorry, tangent.) anyway...i was really pumped to find these sandals because they not only look just like my favorite pair of sandals, they are vegan, eco-friendly & just an all-round nice sounding company.
take a peek at their manifesto. less>more - i couldn't agree more with their entire method to making shoes...simple look, sustainable approach. the only thing i don't like (& it's a very minor complaint) is how the uppers are cotton eyelet. couldn't they have made them more simple & just used plain black cotton? oh well, my reasoning is that most people won't even be able to tell unless they are really up close to my sandals. as soon as i make some money (how many times have i said that now?), i'm going to snatch these babies up real quick.

LIVE MORE! live harder! live stronger! live better! live faster! faster! more! more! more! MORE!
this is not enough.

rhythm
1. trees in the german winter seen with the fisheye2, 2. Blossom fisheye, 3. Cherry blossoms, 4. Brightest Full Moon!, 5. Winter Half Moon 2, 6. Crescent Moon, 7. weather. beach. achill., 8. France Cavaliers 1, 9. Hayden Point SunsetIn the 1920's Dr. Rudolf Hauschka asked his mentor Rudolf Steiner the ever-challenging question:
“What is life?”
"Study rhythm,” Steiner replied, “Rhythm carries life.”
As he observed the world around him he could see life gains its form from the rhythms of nature. He noted, for example, the way in which the vitality of plants ebbs and flows with the rhythms of passing time, the sap rising and falling with the rhythmical motions of the sun and moon. He saw the power of nature's rhythms on all living things, and realized that life itself was in constant rhythmic flux.
-dr. hauscka
even though this quote came from a cosmetic company & is applied to the how to treat your skin. i was really touched by this quote when i contemplated it on a larger scheme, in relation to life. next time i'm having a shitty day i need to think of this. i need to think that this is just the rhythmic ebb & flow of life, this rhythm is cyclic & things will eventually be ok (then of course they will might get bad again but it's ok.) everything will be ok, just give it time.

things i will never understand: marijuana prohibition
i will never understand the us government's position on marijuana. i don't get this war on drugs. if people were presented with the pure & simple facts about marijuana (& not 'facts' from propaganda programs like d.a.r.e) they wouldn't be such bias and hate for a harmless weed. from a purely scientific view there are no serious, negative health effects from marijuana (it's much less harmful than america's favorite drug - booze). in my opinion, the positive effects of marijuana completely & totally outweigh the negative effects. the reason marijuana is illegal is because of lies that the government made up about it. i think this 'war on drugs' is total bullshit. i just don't get it.

personal opinion on the big 3 bailout
my opinion: let them go bankrupt. they (the big 3 automobile manufacturers - gm, ford & chrysler) have been dying for years now. injecting taxpayer money into a corpse won't bring it back to life. these companies have been poorly managed by corrupt, money-grubbing ceo's who make more in a year than i will probably make in my entire life. why don't we ask the upper management of those corporations to reach into their deep, fat pockets & bail their own selves out? i agree with senator dodd who said these companies are "seeking treatment for wounds that are to a large extent self-inflicted". there's so many reasons as to why these companies are failing but probably one of the largest reasons is that no one wants to buy their crap. whether we like it or not we live in a capitalist society. if a product can't compete in the free market then that product needs to be changed & these companies are not willing to change. they want more money to keep on doing the same old thing that got them into the situation in the first place. the big 3's products are not desired by consumers & what about the bailout will make consumers begin to desire those products again? nothing. instead of wasting our nation's money (money that we don't actually have & a quick reminder - our country's debt is as of writing this is $10,667,681,498,581.38 - yes, that's 10.6 trillion dollars) we should be investing in creating new jobs for these workers, we should be investing in companies that are burgeoning, like companies that produce alternitive energy for example. why lend money out if we're never going to see it again? the money we're lending them will only get them through 2009. what about next year? & the year after that? maybe we can just call it a xmas present & every year we'll just give them $700 billions as a gift.
if our country likes being a capitalist country then we have to act like one. spending our nation's money on private industries is socialist & if we want to be socialists then we should just buy out one or all of the big 3 companies. then if the nation owns the company and if government can manage to save them from their impending doom then when they do start making money the money will eventually go back to where it originally came from (us, the u.s. taxpayers).
even if i thought that bailing out these automakers was a good idea, treasury paulson has broken my trust once before (remember the last bailout, the one that was called "the second-largest bait-and-switch scheme that history has ever seen, second only to the reasons given to us to vote for the invasion of Iraq". & there is no way in hell i'm going to give him the oppurtunity to break my trust again. fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me.
(on a sidenote: i'm neither a capitalist or a socialist. i'm not advocating for either. i think both have their individual pros & cons. maybe i'll talk about that more later...)

a few of my favorite things: ray ban 5121
1. Eye Chart - Right, 2. Vintage Eye Chart, 3. when I was a child..., 4. leica M7at the end of my senior i finally came to terms with the fact that my eyes weren't working as well as they used to. i went to lens crafter & they told me what i already knew: i needed glasses. & in all honesty i was kind of excited. i remember when i was a kid i used to pretend to not be be able to read the numbers on that chart they give you. either everyone knew i was faking blindness or i wasn't very consistent in my charade. probably both. now my secret fantasy had become real & i was so excited about picking about a new pair. at the time i either wanted a wayfarer style frame or an oversized granny-ish looking frame. my mom told me that i would look silly & i should get something practical. since they didn't have anything even a tiny bit close to the wayfarer style i got some men's glasses in tortoise shell. i liked them. but i didn't love them. i had been hoping for so long for glasses & when i got the chance i got something that just mediocre. well after 2 years of our tepid love affair i decided to do what i had wanted to do orginally. i ordered some ray ban 5121 original style wayfarers. fuck yeah. i'm finally in love with my glasses!

the ramones
(photo via stupid & contagious)when i was in 8th grade i did a history report, not just any history report but it was the "history day" report (or maybe it wasn't called that...i can't remember what if it was that or something else anyway...), on the ramones. we were supposed to take a major historical event and write about how it change the world. my group (which consisted of my boyfriend, my 2 friends & i) decided the ramones becoming a band & essentially "inventing" punk was a big enough historical event to actually write an entire report that our entire grade depended on. my classmates chose things like "the invention of the car", "the assination of jfk" or "the discovery of america". i thought i was such a little punk. but i did get an A on the report.
